Impian is Malaysia’s largest hand made inflatable kite since 2003. It holds the record in Malaysia’s Book of Records since 2004. The kite is shaped like an alien sea creature. The name Impian in the Malay language translates to „Dream“ in English.

The size of the kite 16.7 meters wide and 36.4 meters long (55 feet x 119 feet). The kite was designed and sewn by Edmund Cheong Peck Huang with assistance from Koh Hong Guan, Lim Kok Tiong, Lee Poh Choon, Chong Swee Ching and Nicholas Cheong Peck Hiang in 2003.

The kite was started with a group of kite flying friends who flew regularly every weekend at Taman Kota Laksamana reclaimed land — now called Impian Kite Flying Field in Melaka.

The kite was sewn because the group of friends wanted a large inflatable kite, but could not afford one. So they decided to sew a kite for themselves. The kite was sewn using a small automatic Singer sewing machine lead by Edmund Cheong Peck Huang and assisted by Koh Hong Guan, Lim Kok Tiong and Lee Poh Choon at Lim Kok Tiong’s house in Melaka.

Today the kite flying group at Kota Laksamana, Melaka is named after the kite Impian as Team Impian. Consisting of more than 20 members, they fly at Impian Kite Flying Field almost every Sunday from 10 am till 6 pm in the evening.

The team regularly flies today at Bintulu Kite Festival or known as Borneo International Kite Festival, Bintulu.
